Advice for the perfect weekend skiing trip
We have compiled a guide to help you pick the perfect weekend ski trip where you are guaranteed fantastic snow conditions so you can make the most of your weekend. When to goIf you are planning a weekend ski trip try and make it a three or four day weekend so you can fly on a Thursday and Monday night. Flights on Friday’s and Sunday’s are a lot more expensive. Also don’t choose a weekend that coincides with a national holiday like Christmas, New Years, February half-term and Easter because resorts will be packed and finding catered ski chalets for only a couple of nights will be tricky. Travelling LightIf you are just taking a weekend break then travelling light could save you time in arrivals as you won’t have to hang around baggage reclaim if you only have hand luggage. However if you have your own skis and boots then take them with you as yours are likely to be far better than any you can hire at the resort and you will save time waiting around to sort out your ski equipment, instead once you get to the resort you’ll be ready to hit the slopes.
Choosing your resortYou won’t need hundreds of kilometres of pistes to ski if you are only going for a couple of days and if you opt for a smaller resort it is less likely to be busy and more likely to offer short-term accommodation. Two convenient weekend resorts are Chamonix in France and St Anton in Austria. Chamonix is just 60 minutes from Geneva airport and located in the Mont Blanc Valley is one of the world’s greatest skiing destinations, Chamonix. There are also some excellent luxury ski chalets in Chamonix alongside an infinite number of possibilities for mountain lovers. Skiing in St Anton is ideally located an hour from Innsbruck airport, 90 minutes from Friedrichshafen airport or 3 ½ hours from Munich airport and there is a train station inside the resort. St Anton is the largest resort in the Arlberg ski area and one of Europe’s best ski areas. St Anton is also well known for having some of the best snowboarding terrain in Austria and some fantastic catered ski chalets. |
